Olrig Church Service 11 May 25
With our parish minister Rev Janet Easton-Berry being currently indisposed due to illness, Castletown stalwart Issy Currie led an upbeat service today in Olrig Parish Church. Taking 'animals' and 'musicals' as her core themes, Issy reminded us that the companionship of pets and cheerful, light-hearted songs from musicals can do much to raise the mood of ourselves and others in times of stress and challenge. Being the second Sunday of the month, tea/coffee, cakes and companionship were enjoyed following the service.
Potato Growing Competition launches!
This Wednesday we gathered at our Olrig Church location to hear a short message about the seeds the farmer sowed. This was a story that Jesus told His disciples. Then we had David Oag teach us everything we needed to know about growing tatties before we got our hands dirty planting them ourselves!
Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came along with the children it was so nice getting to meet you all. Thank you also to Woodside Garden Centre for all their help and donations, and finally to David Oag for providing his knowledge, supplies and idea to do this!
World Day of Prayer 2025
World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement led by Christian women who welcome you to join in prayer and action for peace and justice. This year's theme “I Made You Wonderful,” based on Psalm 139:1-18 was prepared by WDP members from the Cook Islands, and invited us into the knowledge that each one of us was made with care and love by God. When we can receive this profound truth, everything in our life changes and we begin to radiate and shine from within. We also learn how to treat every other person as made wonderful by God.
Within Pentland Parish, this year's event was hosted by Olrig Church supported by volunteers from Dunnet, Keiss and Canisbay churches. Liz Buchan led us through the service format prepared by the ladies from the Cook Islands. As an added bonus, one of our Parish members, Issy Currie, dressed up in her traditional Maori costume and told of her time visiting the Cook Islands whilst teaching in New Zealand.
After the service a superb feast of home-made sandwiches, pancakes and cakes were served with tea and coffee. Certainly an event to remember!
Three generations at Rememberance Day Service
At our recent Remberance Day service in Canisbay church, we were delighted that the congregation spanned all age groups and crossed generations. George, pictured, is the son and grandson of congregation members and was the youngest attendee at the service. He is also pictured here with his grandad Colin Martin who served in the army and was also at the service.
