I am a local lass being born in the parish of Bower and baptized in Bower Parish Church. My family then moved to the adjacent parish of Olrig, moving to Castletown whilst in my teens. I attended Castletown School and then Thurso High School. As we did not have a car my mum and I used to cycle into the church in Castletown. When we moved to the village I joined the church choir and attended the church regularly becoming a Sunday School teacher. I married, went on to have family and now there are grandchildren and great grandchildren. I have always been what you would call a committee person, on most occasions holding an office. One of the positions I hold at the moment is secretary of the Castletown Community Council. My office as Session Clerk of Pentland Parish is very important to me and I try to be as efficient as possible.
The main duties of a Session Clerk are with the Moderator or Interim Moderator to call and prepare for meetings of the Session, to keep minutes of Kirk Session meetings, to attend to correspondence, including the issuing of extracts, to be responsible for all records of the congregation, to submit the records of the congregation annually to the Presbytery for attestation, and to generally support the functioning of the Session.
