Earlier this year between Thursday 20th and Saturday 22nd July, a magnificent flower festival took place in Canisbay Church.  Such was the success of the event that entry donations from around 450 visitors over the three days raised £1,900 which has been donated to the John O’Groats Development Trust Playpark Project.  A superb result.

As if that wasn’t enough, teas were served each day in the Church Hall across the road, with proceeds from these raising £1,169 for Pentland Parish.

Staging such an event took a lot of advance organisation - Mrs Shearer and one of the other flower-arrangers, Rosemary Muir, made festive wreaths and table centres ahead of Christmas, raising more than £850 towards purchasing flowers and display materials.  Further support came from the Highland Council Ward Discretionary Fund and the Stroupster Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund.

Mrs Shearer said: "We were delighted with the way things went over the three days and were extremely grateful for the fantastic support that we got from the community, and for all the lovely comments that people made."

Special mention must be made of the flower arrangers for the ‘Church Year’ themed displays - Carol Tuddenham (Wedding and Easter), Rosemary Muir (Baptism), Elizabeth Gates (Advent), Fiona Webster (Royal Service), Brenda Tait (Harvest Thanksgiving) and Christine Shearer (Pet Service and Remembrance).  Elizabeth Gates, Rosemary Muir and Brenda Tait worked together to create the Christmas themed displays, and Elizabeth Gates, Rosemary Muir and Fiona Webster created the Communion one.

A great effort everyone – well done!
